Please complete the online course cards using the links below. Parents and students should review the course options and discuss what courses they would like to take next year prior to completing the form. The list of courses and descriptions are listed below.
• All students will be enrolled in Language Arts 2, Math 2, Science 2, Civics, and a choice of two elective courses.
• According to Florida Statute, middle school students must successfully complete language arts, math, science, and social studies each year in grades 6-8 to be promoted to high school. Successful completion requires that students earn a grade of ‘D’ or higher.
• Students identified as requiring additional support in Reading are placed into an Accelerated Literacy class.
• Students are required to take one semester of PE each year. If PE is not listed as your #1 or #2 choice, your parent must complete and sign the waiver. The PE Waiver Statement can be found here.
On the form provided, you will be asked to please select elective choices below being the class you prefer the most. Please choose wisely as you will be taking the classes you select – The schedule is designed according to student request, therefore, schedule changes will not be made because students change their mind.
Beginning Band: (Year-long) Students learn how to play brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Students focus on the fundamentals of reading musical notes and rhythms.
Chorus: (Year-long) Students learn fundamental vocal production techniques and group singing. Included are skill training in vocal tone production, choral performance techniques, musical literacy, music appreciation and music theory.
Intermediate Band: (Year-long) Students learn how to play brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Students focus on the fundamentals of reading musical notes and rhythms. Requires the student to have successfully completed Beginning Band or its equivalent.
Physical Education: (Semester) Students learn the rules and strategies for many sports and recreational games, plus participate in a variety of activities.
Spanish I: (Year-long) Students learn greetings, verb conjugations, basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammatical structures. Students who successfully complete this course earn one (1) high school credit.
Business Technology – introduction to business concepts and programs used in the modern-day business world.
Intro to Arts, AV Technology: (Semester-long) Students’ instruction and learning activities are provided in a computer lab setting using hands-on artistic design experiences with technology such as Photoshop.
AVID Academy: (Year-long) AVID is a yearlong academic, regularly scheduled elective class, during the school day, based on writing as a tool of learning, the inquiry method, and collaborative grouping. Students are provided bi-weekly tutoring based on the subject area of need. AVID students are required to participate in college visits and team-building field trips.
Exploring Art 2D: (Semester-long) Students refine techniques in creating a variety of two-dimensional artworks through developing skills in drawing, painting, printmaking and collage. Art mediums utilized are pencil, charcoal, ink, paint, pastels, oil pastels and mixed media. This course incorporates the study of art history and art criticism.
Exploring Art 3D: (Semester-long) Students explore spatial relationships by creating a variety of three-dimensional forms and structures. Art mediums studied and utilized are clay, paper, cardboard, found objects, wood, metals, and yarn. This course incorporates the study of art history and art criticism.
